Resumen:
This work aims to study the variation of the nickel precursor and the sequence of impregnation in the preparation of Pd-Ni bimetallic catalysts for use in the selective hydrogenation of styrene to ethylbenzene. The study emphasized both the hydrogenation activity and resistance to poisoning catalysts by sulfur compounds (thiophene). The characterization techniques used were: ICP and XPS. The XPS results indicated the presence of palladium species: Pd0, Pdδ- and Pdδ+ and bimetallic catalysts also the presence of Ni0 and NiO. These species would be responsible for the variation in the observed activity and sulfur resistance. The most sulfur resistance observed for the bimetallic catalyst NiClPd may be associated with the highest concentration of Pdxδ+OyClz species that would prevent the adsorption of thiophene by steric hindrance and / or electronic and of the absence of species Ni0.
