Resumen:
Diesel engines are extensively used nowadays because of their many advantages. However, they produce two contaminants: NOX and soot, which are very dangerous for the environment and human health. Currently, the regulations related to both contaminants are very strict, and in the future even lower emission levels will be required. One alternative to comply with regulations is the post treatment of exhausts. With this purpose a metallic foam coated with a catalyst can be used, where the metallic foam traps the soot and the catalyst burns it at a low temperature. In this work, a metallic (SS314) foam coated with a Co,Ba,K/ZrO2 catalyst is studied as structured catalyst for soot combustion. Previous work showed that the powder Co,Ba,K/ZrO2 catalyst presents an interesting catalytic behavior.
