Resumen:
Ethylene is currently one of the most demanded compounds in chemical industry due to its utility.It is used to manufacture polymers, ethylene oxide, styrene, etc. Global ethylene consumption reached 129 million m.t. in 2012 and it is forecast to grow at 4% per year for the next 5 years. Steam cracking of naphtha and ethane is currently the most established process of ethene manufacture and it is also the most energy consuming process worldwide. Temperatures up to 800°C and even more are necessary. Developing a structured catalyst that operates at low temperatures (400-450°C) and suitable for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane (ODE) comes up as a promising alternative for ethylene manufacture.The aim of this work is to deposit homogeneous NiCe/g-Al2O3 films onto cordierite monoliths,where Ce acts as promoter, characterize these structured catalysts and test them in the ODE reaction.
