Resumen:
The effect of addition of Ni or Co (3%) on a Pt (1%)/Al2O3 catalyst used in Aqueous Phase Reforming (APR) of ethylene glycol to obtain H2, was studied. The catalysts were prepared by the Urea-matrix combustion method (CMU). A reference catalyst was prepared by incipient wetness impregnation (IWI). Precursors were activated by reduction in H2. Fresh catalysts were analyzed by ICP and characterized by N2 adsorption at 77 K (Sg, Vp) and CO chemisorption at 298 K. The catalytic activity was evaluated in APR of ethylene glycol (10%) in water, in a fixed bed reactor with 0.5 g of catalyst at 498 K, 22 bar, WHSV = 11.7 h-1, with a gas flow outlet of 3 cm3.min-1. The degree of deactivation by coke in the used catalyst was evaluated by TPO. It was found that the Pt-Co pair incorporated by CMU, increases the H2 yield by 50% compared to Pt-IWI and maintains the methane selectivity below 1%. It also decreases the deactivation by coke. Comparing the preparation methods, the catalysts prepared by CMU allowed higher H2 yields.
