Resumen:
In this work it is shown that catalyst overheating produced by runaway of the soot combustion reaction, can be moderated by proper selection of catalyst support, being the La2O3 a good choice for this. In K/La2O3 catalysts, lanthanum compounds decompose in the same temperature range in which soot combustion occurs, thus absorbing part of the heat released in the combustion process and thus avoiding the reaction runaway. Having into account this property of La2O3 supported catalysts, K/La2O3 and K/CeO2 catalytic behaviors are compared in reaction conditions in which a reaction runaway could occur. Catalytic activity was followed by Temperature-programmed-oxidation, and evolved heats were measured by Differential Scanning Calorimetry. Catalysts are characterized by XRD, FTIR, and High Frequency CO2 Pulses.
