Resumen:
The conversion of methane into syngas (CO and H2) is a very important route for the utilization of natural gas. The combination of dry reforming (DR) and catalytic partial oxidation (CPO) of methane is an interesting alternative to the current steam reforming (SR) processes to produce syngas, having the following advantages: i) the heat required for the endothermic DR reaction may be supplied by the exothermic CPO; ii) the decrease of the heat externally supplied; iii) the CH4 conversion in the DR increases by the addition of O2; iv) the carbon formation decreases; and v) the H2/CO ratio may be tailored for the final use of syngas. However, the catalysts must be active and stable in both DR and CPO conditions, therefore, in this study the activity and stability of Pt on Al2O3 was checked separately and compared, as a preliminary step to develop catalysts for the combined process The aim was to investigate the effects of different dopants on the catalytic properties of Pt/Al2O3 catalysts and the role of the Pt content, to determine the minimum Pt loading consistent with good catalytic performances.
