Resumen:
The effect of iridium concentration on the properties of metallic catalysts supported on niobium oxide was studied, in order to obtain new catalysts for the selective opening of naphthenic rings (SRO). Iridium and platinum monometallic catalysts were prepared as references and also bimetallic catalysts with 0.3% of platinum and different amounts of iridium (0.1, 0.3 and 0.6%). The catalysts were characterized by thermoprogrammed reduction and thermoprogrammed desorption of pyridine; to evaluate the function metallic solids, cyclohexane dehydrogenation andcyclopentane hydrogenolysis were used. It was observed that both platinum and iridium are active in decalin conversion and selective in the opening of the ring, but platinum is more selective to naphthalene, an undesirable product. The combination of platinum and iridium results in catalysts with different properties depending on the metal amounts. The monometallic catalysts containing 0.3% platinum or iridium were the most selective in the selective opening of decalin.
