Resumen:
In the last ten years there has been an increasing interest in zeolite films deposited on different substrates to be used in catalytic applications. A wide variety of properties can be obtained with these systems depending on the substrate, the zeolite, or the preparation method employed. This situation represents a challenge to researchers in the field who are faced with finding relationships between the variables defining the physicochemical properties of the systems and their catalytic performance. This would allow the development of catalysts according to the desired characteristics and the type of application. The preparation of zeolite-based powder catalysts presents a great number of performance-determining variables of their own. Structural and chemical modifications or the use of different techniques to incorporate active species are some of the ways in which the final properties of zeolite catalysts can be modified. In film systems, further variables inherent to the formation process should also be considered. These latter variables determine some of the most important film features such as microstructural qualities, porosity, crystal orientation and adherence. All these aspects together will determine the physicochemical characteristics of the structured system and, therefore, its catalytic performance. Accordingly, research in this field provides the necessary basis to develop new catalysts.
