Resumen:
In the last two decades, complex systems for simultaneous carbon and nitrogen (CN)
removal have been proposed. Various configurations of anaerobic and aerobic
reactor systems were applied including submerged membranes to obtain an
excellent effluent quality. However, in this systems membrane fouling is still a major
problem that hinders their more widespread and large-scale application. The aim of
this work is modeling the C-N removal and physical separation in a combined
anaerobic-aerobic membrane bioreactor (MBR) system. An example based on a
combined anaerobic upflow bed filter- aerobic MBR system for the treatment of a
synthetic high-strength C-N wastewater was selected to illustrate the model
application. A good agreement between experimental and predicted values of COD
and NH4+-N concentration and transmembrane pressure is obtained. The accurate
description of the macroscopic variables by the proposed model has an additional
worth due to the fact that the kinetic and stoichiometric parameters of the model were
obtained from the literature. The modeling task provides a useful tool for simulation
and optimization of operational strategies and design of these hybrid systems.+-N concentration and transmembrane pressure is obtained. The accurate
