Resumen:
This work proposes valid integer cutting planes for the thermal Unit Commitment (UC) problem. The UC also known as optimal scheduling in electric power generation systems, can be described as follows: given N power generators and a specified time-variant demand over T time periods, determine the start-up and shut-down schedules and power production for each unit, in order to minimize operational costs while meeting demand. The mathematical formulation for this problem consists of a mixed integer quadratic programming problem (MIQP), highly combinatorial and hard to solve through deterministic approaches for real-world instances. The valid integer cutting planes proposed aim at reducing the relaxation gap, with the steps to construct them being described and their efficacy exemplified.
