Resumen:
The polycrystalline ceramics based on optical rare earth oxides have an important impact on the development of laser active media and other photonic devices. These materials have high efficiencies and compactness integration capacity and comparable properties present in systems currently on the market. In this paper translucent ceramics of Er: YAG were characterized, they were produced by grinding, mechanical pressing and a subsequent thermal processing of calcination and sinterization. The manufactured ceramics were spectroscopically characterized by using confocal microscopy, in particular, luminescence spectroscopy. The simple composition was checked by mean of laser induced plasmas (LIBS) and a complementary analysis by AFM, SEM and XRD were also conducted in this work. All these techniques allow to analyze the structural properties and spatial homogeneity of constituent elements in the samples, then we compare these results with those obtained from a commercial sample of Nd: YAG crystal provided by Baikowski firm.
