Resumen:
A Long Period Grating (LPG) written on optical fiber is a device of great interest in the area of optical communications and sensors. In the first case due to its transmission characteristic (as a band suppressor filter) while in the second case because it?s optical response is sensitive to temperatures changes, refractive index change of the medium surrounding the optical fiber, and mechanical deformations applied to the optical fiber in the grating region. This paper presents the results of the application of different manufacturing methods of these devices. The implemented methods for write LPGs include: ?mechanical induction?, ?electric arc induction? and ?ultra-violet radiation induction (UV)?. The different experimental setups used to write the gratings are described and the results obtained are presented. Finally, the importance at regional level of the capacity achieved is highlighted by reviewing some of the potential technological applications of this type of devices.
