Resumen:
One of the most characteristics feature of granular materials is that the flow rate through an orifice at the bottom of a container is constant, independent of the height of the column of grains and also independent the properties of the material of the grains. Some authors predicted that it is not possible to speed up the flow rate of grains by placing an overweight on top of the column. In this work, we show that applying an overweight we can actually achieve an speed up on the flow rate. The speed up depends on the material properties and on the column height. We also found that the energy dissipated scaled by the pressure and the flow rate follows a master curve for all discharges irrespective of the material properties, the container diameter, the orifice diameter and the overweight.
