Resumen:
Synchronization across spikes in neuronal populationshas been linked to information transmission and sensoryperception in the brain. That is, the spiking activity ofcortical neurons may not be independent and severalstudies have explored the importance of this correlatedactivity. We investigate synchronized activity generatedin groups of neurons of different population sizes bymeans of an information theory approach, and by using acomputational model accounting for correlation structuresof different orders in the neuronal inputs to that population. The synchronization patterns result fundamental forinformation coding in the brain where different areas maybe coupled asymmetrically and it becomes a relevant issuefor understanding how sensory perception is processed inthe cerebral cortex.
