Resumen:
A simple model for describing the water flow in the xylem vascular system is presented here. The basic assumptions of the model are: conservation of mass (continuity equation), the Darcy equation for the water flow and  the capillary pressure as the driving force. An equation of diffusion for the excess  pressure is derived and solved using initial and boundary condition for the xylem system. The predicted variations of xylem tension, gradient xylem tension and water velocity with time and position are in agreement with recent experiments.
