Resumen:
Researchers from the Institute of Applied Biotechnology located in the University of La Plata in Argentina showed interested in studying solvent resistant biocatalysts and the main mechanisms used by bacteria in surviving in media containing highly toxic hydroxylic organic solvents. Biocatalysis has major drawbacks in organic media such as system heterogeneity, low reaction rates, and enzyme deactivation under extreme environmental conditions. As such, the researchers used an oft-used method in obtaining microbial candidates. This research would be of interest in the field of biotransformation of alcohols into esters, and could be used in the flavor industries, as well as also significant in the bioremediation of high molecular weight alcohol contaminated areas.
