Resumen:
It has been shown that the metallic ions like Ag+ or Cu++ has bactericidal properties allowing its use in water purification. The direct application of both ions, or other antibacterial compounds to polluted water is not a practical technique for that reason inorganic carriers are looking for a slow and effective release Therefore, the objective in this work was to characterize a montmorillonite and their Ag+, Cu+ and exchanged products, which arise in a first instance for application in removal of microorganisms from swimming pools. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), specific surface area (Sw), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and Zeta potential measurements. The results obtained indicated that the cations were incorporated partly in the interlayer space, while external surface was also involved.
