Resumen:
Environmental pollution is one of the major and more urgent problems to be resolved in the actual world. In particular water contamination affects most of the planet, but the situation is more dramatic in the less developed countries. All the human activities from agriculture to the fabrication of sophisticated electronic equipment need water, producing enormous amounts of liquid effluents that should be partially purify before release to the environment. Biological water treatment is without doubts the most popular in the entire world because it is versatile, cheep and can be use in big or small cities and for several industries. However, human activity generates synthetic organic compounds that, unlike natural occurring compounds, are extremely resistant to biodegradation by native microorganisms (Ali, 2010). An additional mention deserves soluble metallic species which are not biodegradable and may accumulate in water sediments and soils.
