Resumen:
The aim of this study was to formulate, to develop and to determine the behavior of protective coating systems, with fireproof properties and friendly with the environment, suitable for the protection of metallic substrates. The experimental results allowed to conclude that the di- and tripigmented formulations (zinc laminar modified with calcium silicate of high oil absorption as spacer or with the same calcium silicate and zinc hydroxyphosphite as inhibitor, respectively) showed excellent corrosion resistance when a silicate with inorganic nanosilice in its composition or an ethyl silicate with an appropriate hydrolysis degree was selected as binder; the similarity of behavior could be attributed to the dry film of metallic silicate polymers have comparable structure. Intumescent coatings were also manufactured and then applied on the anticorrosive system, which eventually included an intermediate coating based on organic or inorganic silicates; the cited fireresistant coatings were formulated with a solvent- or a water-based pure acrylic resin. Some multilayer systems exhibited both excellent anticorrosive capacity and fire-retardant properties.
