The gama-mercaptopropiltrimetoxisilane (MTMO) has proven to be a good temporary protection on steel, but there are few studies on galvanized steel. In this paper was studied the protective effect of silane films formed from MTMO hydrolyzed with ethanol or methanol, cured at different temperatures and applied by different methods on electrogalvanized steel. The corrosion behavior was studied by polarization curves (PC), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and humidity chamber (HC). From the results it can be inferred that the alcohol used in the hydrolysis and the curing temperature have a marked influence on the degree of protection provided by the conversion film.
