Resumen:
This presentation describes a project required 8 years ago by the Regulatory Department of Sanitary Works and Services of Buenos Aires. It allowed the drinking water purveyor avoid a 350 million dollar expense, faced for the inner deposit elimination and application of underwater paint in the twin net of London. The used methodology on the Buenos Aires net allowed a less expensive corrosion and microbial control. Techniques used during corrosion studies were applied to small sections of the tubing distribution net: electrochemical polarization, SEM, ESEM, EDX, radiograph and, microbial analysis of water and inner deposits. The results of these techniques on the different materials allowed designing a tailored program for interventions according to the origin and composition of the deposits and contaminants, age and quality of the different net sections, preexisting failures in the material, spe and microbial contents, chlorination level, etc. Its application in Latin-America could not only improve the water quality but also enlarge the beneficiary population with essential sanitary services in the Region.
