Resumen:
The effect of the Atmospheric Corrosion by marine and industrial contaminants on the AA 6201 alloy and Al 99.0 %, are informed in 17 atmospheres of Valparaíso, Chile, after 4, 11, 16 and 24 month’s exposure. Different Cl-/SO2 concentration relationships were determined even when meteorological parameters are common to the whole region. The sea shore distances and topography diversify times of wetness (TOW) and Cl-, deposition rate modifying the answer of both materials to corrosion. The attack morphology and contaminants distribution were SEM-EDX analyzed. Weight loss and the strain resistance to rupture of both materials after the exposition periods showed good correlation among them in both types of atmospheres. The highest attack intensity was observed in the atmospheres with the highest SO2 contents. In all test sites the alloy AA6201 presented better resistance to corrosion and mechanical than pure Al.
