Resumen:
New therapy strategies have being developed to treat respiratory diseases with the purpose to overcoming the limitations of conventional drugs. Liposomes are an example of a system for controlled delivery of drug to the lung. Liposomes are appropriate for therapeutic agent delivery to lung, since these vesicles can be prepared from compounds endogenous to the lungs. A particular kind of liposomes is the polymeric ones. Polymerized liposomes can be obtained by a photopolymerization process. Since polymerized liposomes combine the benefits of the transporter with the resistance and stability of polymers, they have received much attention in several biological areas. In the present study, we evaluate if liposomes developed by our group cause an inflammatory response and lung injury in order to test if they are safe and secure to be applied as drug delivery vectors to the lung tissue. Furthermore, we also characterize these carriers in order to analyze if there biophysical properties had an influence in their interaction with lung barriers.
