Resumen:
Though Argentine culture has received contributions from many countries of the world, mainly from Europe, there are other populations of Native American origin within the Argentina Republic, with even more antiquity. Today, the number of native people inhabiting Argentina is approximately 4% of the total population. However, the culture, worldview, and education of native populations, which are completely different, have not been taken into account along the last centuries. The largest estimated number of natives in Argentina inhabit the Gran Chaco region, showing a remarkable cultural diversity. In this chapter, we focused our attention to the culture and education of the native populations living in that region. The National Constitution Reform of 1994 in its Article 75 Section 17 guarantees among other rights a bilingual and bicultural education to native people. However, this right has not been fulfilled yet. One of the most important steps is to train enough Aboriginal Teachers to comply with the law and satisfy the needs of the native populations. Moreover, additional strategies should be used to implement the above mentioned rights, for instance, to encourage the non-native population, especially the children, to learn a native language at school.
