Resumen:
The results of a hydrogeological survey based on geohydrochemical and isotopic criteria inthe basins of Minas and Agua del Corral streams (220 km2) are presented. The objective isto identify the origin of groundwater salinity and its possible relationship with the discharge ofpurge water in abandoned petroleum fields. The local climate is mesothermal, transitional toarid, with a mean rainfall of 195 mm/year and a water deficit of 585 mm/year. Prior to thecreation of a terrain digital model, levels were measured in existing wells and in threephreatimeters, a map was drawn up based on IGM cartography and ASTER satelliteimagery. Recharge, circulation and discharge zones and main flow directions wererecognized. Samples from groundwater and the nearby Mendoza River were collected formajor and minor ions, inorganic trace elements, HTP, BETX and VOC’s . Isotopic analyses(2H 18O) 3H and 222Rn were also made at INGEIS laboratories. The hydrochemicalinformation (including petroleum purge water) was statistically treated and processed withgraphical methods. The isotopic results were represented in conventional scatter plots ( 2Hvs. 18O). 3H was used as an indicator of transit time and 222Rn as a diagnostic radionuclide. The hydrochemical and isotopic data allowed demonstrate the absence of petroleumformation waters in the local aquifer or a possible water mixture and its relation to the presentcycle.
