Resumen:
The Almendares-Vento hydrographic basin is one of the most important in Cuba country and it is the main water supply for people living in Havana City. The hydrographical resources of this Basin are affected by the overexploitation and contamination risk by the antropic action. During 2003-2004, the “Centro de Protección e Higiene de las Radiaciones” (CPHR) made chemical studies and measured tritium concentrations.  During 2005, a new isotopic research began. This was developed in the framework of an International Collaboration Project SECYT-CITMA (CU/PA04-BVII/023) represented by Cuba (CPHR) and Argentina (“Instituto de Geocronología y Geología Isotópica” - INGEIS). Stable isotope results show the meteoric origin of the water and its relation to the present hydrological cycle. Groundwater and surface water fit on an evaporation line. Groundwater tritium concentrations range between 1,8 TU y 4,4 TU and surface water activities vary between 2,1 TU y 4,4 TU, while November, 2005 rain water has 2.3 TU. These values are higher than tritium concentrations measured during 2003-2004 and, probably they reveal recent recharge from the greatest 2005 hurricane season. The rain record from 2005 is not available; consequently the residence time of the groundwater basin can not be defined
