Resumen:
The papers included in this special issue use analytical techniques toaddress major questions and problem-focused research. This is mostvisible in the integration of datasets with diff erent levels of theory, aswell as in the strategic combination of diverse proxies that elucidatedifferent aspects of the dynamics of past human societies and theirimpact on ecosystems. The papers are organized in three main domains of archaeologicalenquiry: a) archaeometry, conceived as the measurement of physic andchemical properties of archaeological materials (Duarte Cavalcanteet al., Killian Galvan, Lynch Ianniello et al., Samec et al., Grant et al.,Dantas and Figueroa, Lantos et al., Durán et al., Maximiano Castillejoet al., Crespo et al., Kochi et al.); b) human palaeoecology, integratingdiverse proxies on climate change (Morales M. et al., Pirola et al., Burryet al., Meléndez et al., Giaché and Bianchi, Fernández et al.); and c)formation processes of the archaeological record, including in the fieldsof taphonomy and geoarchaeology (Morales N. et al.).Archaeometric approaches account for a large part of the articles inthe special issue, illustrating the growing maturity of ?archaeologicalscience? in southern South America
