Resumen:
Swash generated by small waves has been found to be powerful enough to move large gravels on a sandy beach. To analyze the energy of the swash during a period of effective gravel transport, swash on a mixed gravel-sand beach where studied by direct measurement with and ADV and filmed with video camera from a tower located near the study area. Even though waves were of the order of 25 cm in height, they generated conditions large enough to transport all the gravels within the camera field of vision. PIV estimations from the swash shows that the main orientation of the uprush is directly proportional to the angle of wave breaking. Mean velocities estimated from the PIV was from 22 to 43 cm s-1 for the swash and 24 to 46 cm s-1 for the backwash which are of the same order than those measured by ADV.
