The aim of this work was to investigate the changes in type 1 receptor to corticotrophin releasing factor (CRFR1) expression in an experimental model of depression, the learned helplessness paradigm (LH), and the effect of chronic treatment with fluoxetine on the modifications observed in LH exposed animals. We measured by in situ hybridization the expression of CRFR1 in CA3 and dentate gyrus (DG) of hippocampus of rats 21 days after exposure to the LH paradigm. We compared animals not exposed to stress (C) with animals developing behavioral despair after exposure to stress (LH+) and with rats that failed to develop such despair (LH-).
