In addition, RUNX2 is one of the up regulated genes observed by gene array analysis in the tumors which have acquired a hormone independent growth. It has been reported that a polymorphism in the FGFR2 gene is related to sporadic ER- and PR-positive breast cancer risk and that the SNPs involved alter the binding affinity for the transcription factors OCT-1/RUNX2 and EBP-β. Taking into account that FGF2 activates RUNX2 and that a physical interaction between STAT5 and RUNX2 has also been reported, we decided to investigate the expression of FGFR2, STAT5 and RUNX2 in breast cancer samples. Materials and Methods: Seventy formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded breast cancer specimens were processed for immunohistochemistry to detect FGFR2, STAT5 and RUNX2. Staining was scored according to their intensity and their sub cellular localization Results: A strong correlation was observed between nuclear FGFR2 and nuclear STAT5 expression and between nuclear FGFR2 and nuclear RUNX2 expression (p
