Previous evidences pointed to the participation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the effect of paclitaxel (PX) as an antitumor agent in lung cancer. However, less knowledge is available regarding the actions of PX on nAChRs in nearby organs such as those of the breasts. The addition of nicotine (NIC) confirmed the presence of functional nAChRs in mammary cells which mediated an increment in cell viability measured by MTT assay.
