Resumen:
Objectives: Maternal diabetes programs metabolic and cardiovasculardisorders and diabetes in the adult offspring. Paternal exposure to diabetescan also result in the development of such disorders in the offspring. Theaimwas to study the paternal and fetal metabolic parameters, and the lipidcontent and lipoperoxidation in the placenta and fetal heart of healthypregnant rats that were mated with male diabetic rats. Methods: Control and type 2 diabetic male rats (diabetes obtained byintrauterine programming, glycemia: 140-190 mg/dL) were mated withcontrol female rats. On day 21 of gestation, the pregnant and male ratswere euthanized and the fetal and paternal plasma, the placenta, the fetusesand fetal hearts were obtained. Triglyceridemia and cholesterolemiawere measured in paternal and fetal plasma by commercial kits. Lipidlevels (by TLC) and lipoperoxidation (by quantification of TBARS), weremeasured in placenta and fetal hearts from control (CP) and diabetic (DP)paternal groups. Results: Triglyceridemia and cholesterolemia were increased inpaternal plasma (39% and 21%, respectively, p
