Aims: To make a systematic revision of the literature looking for studies those have investigated the genetic differential expression on brain tissue from temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) patients by means of microarray or sage assays. To characterize the deregulated functional process by means of bioinformatic tools. Methods: We searched the medical literature using PUBMED. Our search strategy was “[microarrays OR sage] AND epilepsy”. We choose those studies that investigated the gene expression on brain tissue from TLE patients. We search references from these studies in order to recognize other studies not previously identified in the original search. We built a database of differential expressed genes from included studies. We analyzed the quality of the studies using a scale. We identified deregulated pathways analyzing the genes functional annotations. We built a gene network of the genetic differential expression of the TLE. Results: We included 9 studies that analyzed the genetic differential expression on brain tissue from 54 patients. The quality and the methodology of the studies were quite heterogeneous. Among the different functional process deregulated on the brain from TLE patients are remarkable those related to immunological processes and cell growth. Conclusions: We built a database of differentially expressed genes on the brain from TLE patients.
