Resumen:
Introduction: α-Naphthoflavone (αNF), a synthetic antioxidant, is an antagonist of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR). Previously, we showed that a daily treatment with αNF enhances the follicular growth in immature rats stimulated with gonadotropins. 3-Methylcholanthrene (3MC), a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, is an environmental pollutant that causes reproductive toxicity. Objectives: Study the effect of 3MC on the rat puberty and whether αNF is able to prevent its action. Methods: Immature rats were daily injected with a combination of 3MC (0.1-1mg/kg) and αNF (80mg/kg) for 20 days. Ovulation rate (OR), follicular growth and the presence of micronuclei (MN) were evaluated. Results: Compared with controls (C), the administration of 3MC delayed the vaginal opening (VO, C:37±1; 3MC:42±1; p
