Resumen:
Reproduction in flowering plants includes processes, like pollen germination and pollen tube growth, where water and/ or solutes movements must be finely regulated. This suggests the participation of aquaporins mediating water and solutes transport. AtTIP5;1, AtTIP1;3, AtNIP4;1 and AtNIP4;2 are the only aquaporins that are selectively expressed in Arabidopsis thaliana mature pollen. We used Xenopus oocytes as an heterologous system to study whether these aquaporins transport water and solutes. To investigate the function of these aquaporins in Arabidopsis pollen, we obtained and analyzed T-DNA mutant alleles. We generated full-length N-terminal GFP fusions to study the subcellular localization and promoter GUS fusions to analyze aquaporin gene expression.
