Stevia Rebaudiana (Bertoni): Stevioside emerged as a novel anticonvulsant drug

Using computational techiques such as virtual screening, derivatives of Stevia Rebaudiana have been selected as potential anticonvulsant drugs. This theoretical prediction was confirmed by the in vivo test in mice . Even more, our recent docking studies proposed that stevioside and rebaudioside A are able to bind into the small molecule site of the Nav1.2 isoform, which is a classical target involved in the mechanism of action of many anticonvulsant drugs.
