Resumen:
We synthesized information on bioindicators of aquatic environments included in the Wetland Region of the Chaco-Mesopotamian Fluvial Corridor and Fluvial Paraguay-Paraná Corridor. Studies on benthic macroinvertebrates, macroinvertebrates of vegetated areas in wetlands and zooplankton related to the species association indicator, biotic indices applied and ecotoxicological tests are included. In ecotoxicologic tests, different benthic and zooplanktonic species were used at the micro and mesocosm scales to analyze the effect of different pollutants, mainly on growth, reproduction, life history, behavior, malformations, as well as the capacity for bioaccumulation and elimination of metals. In addition, adaptive invertebrate strategies are included to avoid different types of stress. It is proposed to obtain a sustainability index integrating ecological and socioeconomic indicators that allow the environmental health of aquatic systems in the region to be diagnosed
