This chaper comprises seven thematic parts.  The introduction deals with the main sources of information about the subject of the chapter and  the more important features of the community. In the second part, similarities and differences about the composition and abundance of the zooplankton lotic and lentic bodies are analyzed taking in account the existence of a long gradient in between these two environmental extremes. Third part deals with the environmental factors regulating the abundance and seasonal distribution of the zooplankton of the alluvial valley lakes including the relationships with other biological components of the systems. The fourth part discusses the influence of the flood pulse and physic environmental factors on the potamozooplakton dynamics. The subject related to the longitudinal distribution of the abundance and richness of the zooplankton along the river flow axis and the impact of the biological contributions from the flood plain is critically discussed in the fifth part. The sixth part is devoted to the relationship between richness and  the connectivity as a homogenising force. Finally, in the conclusions the main features of the zooplankton of Parana Medio River, are evaluated in a wider context including comparisons with data  from other large rivers of the Earth.
