Resumen:
The state of the art in the toxicological effects of nanomaterials (NMs) is analyzed with a main focus in the responses of aquatic organisms. Several examples are included, examining the toxicity of both organic and inorganic nanoparticles, particularly in oxidative stress responses. Data from the literature is included in order to compare nanomaterials and bulk material toxicity in daphnids. Effects of nanomaterials on immune responses are also discussed. Overall, literature reviewed indicates that some species are more sensitive to NMs, and the complex interaction that NMs establish with abiotic factors such as light (UV and visible) radiation.
