ABSTRACT. EVALUATION OF THE GEOTECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ORNAMENTAL STONES FROM AGUAS BLANCAS QUARRY, JEU-JEPÉN HILL, ISLA GRANDE DE TIERRA DEL FUEGO, ARGENTINA. ?Natural stone", a term which is frequently applied to ornamental rocks, it encompasses a wide range of stone materials used in the building industry. They are used as raw materials for the construction of civil works, cladding of buildings, squares and streets. The general objective of this work is to realize a geotechnical characterization of the "Aguas Blancas" quarry, located in the western slope of the Jeu-Jepén Hill, in the head of the Fagnano Lake. The main field geological characteristics of the Aguas Blancas quarry were described. Several profiles performed on the different banks of the quarry were constructed differentiating more or less homogeneous zones based on the lithology, fracture frequencies, degree of meteorization and other features. Technological data were analyzed on evaluating the suitability of several igneous samples for ornamental use. The geotechnical characterization reached allowed establishing preliminarily that the
