Resumen:
This paper focuses on the technological strategies developed by hunter-gatherer and fishing societies of the northern coast of the Beagle Channel (Tierra del Fuego, Argentina) in order to explore changes and continuities in their social dynamics. Three axes are assessed: a) labor invested in stone tools, their morphological diversity and context of use; b) the relationships between technology and different spheres of social production and c) the connections with other areas of the Magellan-Fuegian archipelago. The results show two inflection points, the first dated around the 4000 B.P. and the second dated around the 2000 B.P. These changes reflect variations in frequencies, designs and uses of lithic instruments that follow a general trend observable in different productive activities at a macro regional level.
