Resumen:
DNA barcodes and the Consortium for the Barcode of Life (CBOL) DNA barcodes are short sequences from a standardized part of the mitochondrial genome (648 bp of the COI gene) used for species identification. In 2004, the Consortium for the Barcode of Life was created as a global alliance of museums, universities and molecular laboratories aimed to promote the generation and use of DNA barcodes. Here, I will present and discuss the uses of DNA barcodes, the structure of the consortium, and its main projects and campaigns.
