Resumen:
The family Apidae is represented in Argentina by its three subfamilies and twenty four tribes, comprising 427 named species to date. It is the most diverse group of bees in Argentina, both at the level of genera and species. All the tribes that occur in the Neantarctic and Neotropical Regions are represented in Argentina, and several of these tribes present here their maximal generic diversity. Such tribes are the Caenoprosopidini, Emphorini, Exomalopsini, Isepeolini, and Teratognathini. A total of seven endemic genera occur in the area. An account of the current knowledge of these bees in Argentina is given, together with notes on classification, evolution and biology. A key to the twenty four tribes that occur in the area is presented.
