Resumen:
Mobile device capabilities have been steadily increasing in the past years. Besides, wireless network coverage has expanded to cover all major cities. As a result of these facts, the potential benefits of integrating mobile devices into Grid infrastructures have encouraged research on how to do that. Several issues have been identified that steam from using mobile devices. Basically, the issues are related with energy consumption, networking and limited resources. This arises from the fact that mobile devices are small computers that run on battery and can move outside of the wireless coverage area while they are operating. This paper analyzes the issues of introducing mobile devices into Grid systems and discusses proposed solutions to them. Although the issues generally crosscut all the layers in a Grid, this study evaluates how each issues affect each level of abstraction of a Grid from its fabric layer to its user application layer. In addition, we propose a taxonomy that considers the use of mobile devices. Finally, we also discuss future research opportunities based on open issues.
