Resumen:
A Cu–chitosan/alumina catalyst has been synthetized and tested for oxidation of phenol solutions (1g/L) with H2O2 in a laboratory batch reactor. Experiments were performed at temperatures between 40 and 60ºC with air at atmospheric pressure. The rate of disappearance of phenol and H2O2 as well as that of TOC abatement increases at increasing temperatures. At 60ºC and an amount of H2O2 slightly higher than the stoichiometric, complete phenol conversion and a high TOC reduction (90%) are achieved at 60 and 180 min respectively. Phenol and the aromatic intermediates are completely removed and only organic acids remained in the liquid after 3 h of reaction.
