Resumen:
In this work, the corrosion of different alumina-magnesia-carbon (AMC) refractories by a molten steelmaking slag was evaluated using a dynamic method. These materials are employed in the bottom and the metal line of steelmaking ladles. The studied materials are composed by tabular and brown fused alumina, fine magnesia particles, graphite and aluminum as antioxidant, all of them bonded with a phenolic resin. The dipping test was used on specimens, which were extracted from the bricks by cutting, placed in an induction furnace. A maximum temperature of 1600°C during 30 min and a rotation rate of 25 rpm were used. A typical steelmaking slag with 10.6 of basicity (CaO/SiO2 weight ratio) was evaluated. After the test, the specimens were characterized in order to evaluate the corrosion wear by dimensional variations measurements and the analysis of the phases formed at the slag-refractory interface using scan electronic microscopy. The corrosion behavior of each refractory was analyzed considering the influence of its composition, microstructure and texture. Besides, the dipping test results were compared with those obtaining in static corrosion tests (cup test) and with data obtained in the thermodynamic simulation of corrosion carried out using the FactSage software.
