Resumen:
The peroxidation of phenol solutions (1000 mg/L) was studied in a laboratory batch reactor at 60 and 70ºC, using three modified commercial grade diatomites: Raw-calcined (RD), Fe-diatom (Fe-D) and Cu/Fe-diatom(Cu/Fe-D) Impregnated catalysts were prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation (IWI). All samples were calcined at 700ºC, then characterized and tested in phenol peroxidation at pH = 6 with a load equivalent to 100 mg/L of Fe or Cu and a H2O2 dose 1.3 times the stoichiometric. For all samples, at 70ºC phenol was completely converted in less than 180 min. Higher TOC conversions (80%) were achieved with the Cu/Fe-D sample, however Cu leaching is excessive.
