Resumen:
The morphology of hybrid organic/inorganic coatings on a mesoscopic scale consists of at least an inorganic and an organic phase. These type of coatings are able to enhance the scratch and abrasion resistance of a polymeric substrate. The mechanical properties of the coating as well as the coating/substrate adhesion play a crucial role in coating efficiency. This work deals with the characterization of different systems based on PEO/SiO2 hybrid coatings deposited onto a PVC film substrate using depth sensing indentation techniques. The studied systems differed in the coating thickness (0.4 and 1 mm) and in the curing time (24, 50 and 168 h at 60°C). The influence of these variables on the elastic properties and scratch behaviour of the coating/substrate systems was investigated.
