Resumen:
Manicaria saccifera fibers form a natural unidirectional mat that can be used to manufacture composite laminates. In this work, the impact behavior of M.saccifera fibers?polyurethane and epoxy matrix reinforced symmetric cross-ply composites is investigated. The results obtained show that M.saccifera reinforced composites, have specific impact strength - impact load divided by the composite thickness - comparable to several synthetic fiber based composites. The macroscopic impact behavior of the composites was associated to the fracture surface morphology by SEM analysis.
