Resumen:
Polymeric materials prepared from natural raw materials have gained increased significance because of unsure petroleum supply in the future and concerns about environmental problems. Natural products are attractive because they present several advantages, such as abundance and availability from renewable resources, relatively low cost and the possibility of biodegradation in some cases (Rowell, 1997). The chemical modification of vegetal oils can result in new monomers with multiple functional sites (Khot et al, 2001). The linseed oil resin obtained in this work was further reacted with styrene by means of free radical polymerization and filled with pine wood flour. The knowledge of the creep behavior of these new materials is essential for evaluating their performance in practical appliances. This work investigates the creep performance of wood flour-linseed oil based thermoset composites. Specially, the filler content and testing temperature were considered in the evaluation of creep performance of the composites. The Bürgers model was used to predict the viscoelastic behavior of the composites. The effect of time after sample preparation (aging) on creep behavior was also evaluated.
